I direct strategic external and internal communications at the 200-person state agency that oversees all K-12 public schools in the state of Montana. I manage and implement the day-to-day external communications strategy for the agency which includes press events, press releases, social media content, web and blog content. I develop multimedia communications tools for Superintendent Denise Juneau’s signature initiatives such as Graduation Matters Montana, Schools of Promise, and Attendance Matters. This work has resulted in international and national media attention, elevating the excellent work of Montana’s public schools and making our state a leader in public education. Internally, I’ve developed an agency branding guide and social media pitch process to better unify the OPI’s communications channels which has resulted in increased participation and managed messaging.

In Oct. 2015, I launched Denise Juneau’s campaign for Congress, building and populating a website, creating social media channels, and developing strategic messaging. During the last 12 months I worked in collaboration with the campaign’s consulting team to implement a campaign strategy focused on Denise’s priorities of putting Montana’s people, land and economy first. This included organizing regular press events, developing policy priorities, press releases, speeches, debate prep materials, and rapid-response communications. It also included developing talking points for partner organizations and validators who I worked with to amplify the campaign’s strategy. In less than a year, I grew Denise’s social media audience by nearly 400 percent by developing shareable, compelling content.

I manage Boise State Public Radio’s digital content, shaping the job into an awesome mix of journalism, editing, marketing and strategy. I work across radio, digital and print platforms with a focus on creating data-driven, shareable stories. I’ve created, and am implementing, the station’s social media strategy to recruit a whole new generation of public radio fans. In just one year, I lead an 84 percent increase in the station’s web traffic. I produce the station’s monthly newsletter, write and edit external press releases from station leadership, and train staff on multimedia best-practices. Plus, I’m still reporting in-depth enterprising radio and web features.

StateImpact Idaho was a data-driven reporting collaboration between National Public Radio and Boise State Public Radio. Our focus was on telling personal stories about how government policy and the economy affect real lives. Idaho was one of eight pilot states in the StateImpact network. Over the two-year pilot, I built a brand, a website and an audience at the same time I reported daily stories and long-term in-depth radio pieces.

Based at the State Capitol, I filed daily stories on Montana politics, government, education and the economy. I reported, wrote, edited and produced a three to four minute news story every day. I frequently traveled around central and western Montana to provide in-depth coverage for our listeners. I often freelanced for National Public Radio, National Native News and Reuters. I also created and implemented MTPR’s social media strategy and was responsible for maintaining our various social sites.

I was one of 20 affiliate station reporters chosen to spend a week at NPR West in an intensive training program learning to cover the economy in the summer of 2009. For twelve weeks I worked with an NPR editor on regional economic stories that aired on Montana Public Radio. During the spring of 2010 I was one of eight chosen to be a Senior Fellow in a second round of training.

I produced three evening newscasts for the ABC affiliate in Kennewick, WA. Responsible for stacking the show, writing, reporting and working with the news team in a split market to create a cohesive and informative product. I also produced and anchored a live noon webcast and served as a fill in anchor and reporter for our nightly shows.

I had a very hands-on experience assisting producers for ten weeks on the award winning show CBS Sunday Morning. I was as an assistant producer for several stories, researched, searched archival film, logged tape, and assisted producers on field shoots.
